This Legal Information applies to sailingcompass.com and to the services offered under the Sailing Compass brand, including the Sailing Compass Academy, Sailing School, and Sailing Experiences.

Sailing Compass brings together digital sailing education, practical sailing training, and real-world sailing experiences.

Depending on the service selected, the relevant service provider is identified in the applicable section below.

PART I — TERMS OF USE & CONDITIONS

1. General Website Terms

The Sailing Compass website provides information and access to sailing education, training, digital learning, and sailing experiences.

By accessing the website or using any Sailing Compass service, you agree to use the website and its services lawfully and responsibly.

Users must not attempt to interfere with the operation, security, content, accounts, systems, or infrastructure of the website or any associated platform.

Information provided through the website is intended to describe the relevant services as accurately as reasonably possible.

Specific arrangements, schedules, availability, prices, routes, training plans, vessels, instructors, or other operational details may vary depending on the selected service, weather conditions, safety considerations, availability, and other relevant circumstances.

Where service-specific terms differ from these General Terms, the applicable service-specific terms below shall prevail.

2. SAILING COMPASS ACADEMY

TERMS OF USE

2.1 About the Platform

The Sailing Compass Academy (the “Platform”) is an interactive 3D sailing education platform owned and operated by Lefteris Amoiralis, trading under the Sailing Compass brand, through his registered business in Greece, and is governed by applicable Greek and EU law.

The Platform is accessible via desktop, laptop, or mobile devices through a web browser.

Purpose & Educational Scope

The Sailing Compass Academy is designed as an educational learning environment. The goal of the Platform is to help users build sailing knowledge, skills, and confidence, allowing them to learn at their own pace, from anywhere in the world.

Using a detailed 3D model of IRIS, a real sailing yacht, users can explore onboard systems, equipment, and spaces. Learning is supported through videos, diagrams, simulations, and interactive tools.

The Platform is intended to complement practical, real-world sailing training. While the 3D modules provide strong theoretical understanding and preparation, real on-water experience remains essential to become a competent sailor or skipper.

By accepting these Terms and using the Platform, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • the Platform is educational only;
  • it does not replace certified instruction, licensing, or supervised practical training; and
  • real-world sailing involves risks that require hands-on experience and judgment.

Vessel Type & Applicability

The Sailing Compass Academy is based on a conventional cruising monohull sailing yacht.

The principles demonstrated throughout the Platform (including sail trim, balance, reefing techniques, onboard systems, safety procedures, and navigation practices) are primarily applicable to standard displacement monohull sailing vessels.

While many sailing fundamentals are transferable, different yacht designs — including performance monohulls, heavy-displacement vessels, racing yachts, and multihull configurations such as catamarans or trimarans — may require different techniques, trim strategies, stability considerations, and handling approaches.

Users are responsible for understanding the specific characteristics and operational requirements of the vessel they are sailing.

2.2 Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, registering, or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy below.

If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

2.3 Eligibility

  • The Platform is intended for users 18 years or older.
  • Users under 18 may only use the Platform with parental or legal guardian consent.
  • You confirm that the information you provide during registration is accurate and complete.

2.4 Accounts & Access

  • Access requires registration using a valid email address.
  • Each account is personal and non-transferable.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
  • Sharing access, reselling access, or allowing third parties to use your account is strictly prohibited.

2.5 Memberships & Subscriptions

  • Access to the Platform is provided through a membership for a specified period, as indicated at the time of purchase.
  • Membership duration and status are shown in the user dashboard.
  • If a membership expires and is not renewed, access will be suspended until a new membership is purchased.

2.6 Purchases, Payments, Membership Duration & Refund Policy

Payments & Processing

Payments for access to the Platform are processed securely through WooCommerce-supported payment providers.

Sailing Compass does not store full payment card details at any time.

Invoicing & Taxation

Company (B2B) invoices require a valid company name and VAT number, where applicable.

The service may be VAT-exempt, in accordance with applicable Greek and EU tax law.

Membership Duration

Access to the Platform is granted for the membership period selected at the time of purchase. The applicable duration is clearly stated before purchase and in the user’s membership details.

No Automatic Renewal

Memberships do not renew automatically.

Users must actively purchase a new membership in order to continue access after expiration.

Expiration Notification

As a courtesy reminder, users will receive a notification email approximately fifteen (15) days prior to the membership expiration date.

Refund Policy

Due to the nature of the Platform as a digital service providing immediate access to educational content, all purchases are final and non-refundable once access has been granted.

By purchasing access to the Platform, you expressly consent to the immediate provision of digital content and acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal, in accordance with applicable EU consumer protection law.

2.7 Educational Content Disclaimer

The Platform provides educational content only.

It does not replace certified professional training, licensing, or real-world sailing experience.

Users remain fully responsible for their actions, decisions, and safety when sailing.

2.8 Intellectual Property Rights

All content available on the Platform, including but not limited to:

  • 3D tours, simulations, environments, and models
  • software code, scripts, platform architecture
  • diagrams, educational material, graphics
  • photos, videos, animations, and audio
  • trademarks, logos, and branding

is original, unique, and the exclusive property of Sailing Compass and is protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.

Limited License

Users are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the content for personal educational use only, during an active membership.

Prohibited Actions

You may not:

  • copy, download, record, redistribute, or resell content
  • screen-record lessons or share them publicly or privately
  • reverse engineer, scrape, or extract code or assets
  • use content to train AI systems or create derivative works
  • remove copyright notices or watermarks

Violations may result in immediate account termination and legal action.

2.9 Platform Availability

We aim to provide continuous access but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Temporary downtime may occur due to maintenance, updates, or technical issues.

2.10 Termination

Sailing Compass reserves the right to suspend or terminate access if:

  • these Terms are violated;
  • misuse, abuse, or security risks are detected; or
  • required by law or regulation.

2.11 Limitation of Liability & Assumption of Risk

The user acknowledges and agrees that sailing and maritime activities involve inherent risks, including risks to personal safety, property, vessels, and third parties.

The Platform provides educational content only, including simulations, 3D models, videos, diagrams, and learning materials.

Any actions taken based on the information or educational content provided on the Platform are undertaken entirely at the user’s own risk.

The user remains solely responsible for:

  • assessing weather, sea state, vessel condition, and environmental factors;
  • understanding the specific design characteristics and limitations of the vessel being operated;
  • making operational and navigational decisions; and
  • ensuring personal safety and the safety of others when sailing or operating any vessel.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Greek and EU law, Sailing Compass, the Sailing Compass Academy, the Platform itself, and the team behind the Platform shall not be liable for any direct or indirect injury, loss, damage, accident, claim, or incident arising from:

  • the use of the Platform;
  • reliance on its educational content; or
  • the application of such content in real-world sailing or maritime situations.

2.12 Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms at any time.

Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

2.13 Vessel Identification & Manufacturer Disclaimer

The 3D model used within the Platform represents IRIS, a privately owned sailing yacht.

Any reference to vessel type, manufacturer name, or model (including but not limited to Beneteau or Oceanis) is made solely for identification and descriptive purposes.

Sailing Compass and the Sailing Compass Academy are independent educational initiatives and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected with any yacht manufacturer, shipyard, brand owner, or distributor.

All trademarks and brand names remain the property of their respective owners.

3. SAILING SCHOOL —
TERMS & CONDITIONS

3.1 Training Provider

Sailing training services offered through the Sailing Compass Sailing School are provided under the Sailing Compass brand by Lefteris Amoiralis, through his registered business in Greece.

Lefteris Amoiralis is a certified sailing instructor and is responsible for the organisation and delivery of the Sailing School training programme.

Training may also be delivered by appropriately qualified and authorised sailing instructors working with Sailing Compass.

Where a course leads to sailing certification, the certification and issuance process is carried out in cooperation with an appropriately recognised or affiliated Nautical Club operating within the framework of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, in accordance with the applicable procedures and requirements.

The specific Nautical Club involved may vary depending on the course, training arrangement, or certification process.

3.2 Course Structure

Depending on the selected programme, training may include:

  • theoretical instruction;
  • online or classroom sessions;
  • practical onboard training;
  • manoeuvring exercises;
  • navigation and seamanship;
  • night sailing;
  • safety procedures;
  • examinations or assessments where applicable;
  • educational materials; and
  • access to the Sailing Compass Academy where included.

Course structure, schedules, vessels, instructors, and the sequence of individual sessions may be adjusted where reasonably necessary for operational, educational, weather, or safety reasons.

3.3 Registration & Participant Information

Students are responsible for providing accurate and complete information when submitting an application or enrolling in a course.

Where information relevant to safe participation is requested, students must provide accurate information and notify Sailing Compass of any material change that may affect their participation.

3.4 Fees & Payments

Course fees, payment arrangements, and the services included in the applicable programme are communicated before enrolment.

Any additional service or training outside the agreed programme may be subject to an additional charge, which will be communicated in advance.

Invoices and receipts are issued in accordance with applicable Greek law.

3.5 Scheduling, Weather & Rescheduling

Practical sailing training is dependent on weather, sea conditions, vessel availability, and safety considerations.

Sailing Compass and/or the instructor may postpone, reschedule, modify, or cancel a practical training session where conditions are considered unsuitable or unsafe.

A postponement for weather or safety reasons does not constitute cancellation of the overall training programme.

Reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule affected sessions.

Students are responsible for arriving at the agreed meeting point at the agreed time and for following the instructions of the instructor.

3.6 Missed Sessions & Student Cancellations

Students should provide reasonable notice where they are unable to attend a scheduled session.

The possibility of rescheduling a missed session depends on the course structure, group timetable, instructor availability, vessel availability, and the arrangements applicable to the particular course.

Repeated or unjustified absence may affect course completion or eligibility for examination, assessment, or certification where minimum attendance or practical participation is required.

3.7 Safety & Participant Responsibilities

Sailing and maritime training involve inherent risks.

Participants must:

  • follow all safety instructions provided by the skipper or instructor;
  • use safety equipment when instructed;
  • behave responsibly onboard;
  • respect the vessel, equipment, instructors, other students, and third parties; and
  • avoid conduct that could endanger themselves or others.

The skipper and/or instructor has final authority regarding the safe operation of the vessel during training and may modify, postpone, or stop an activity where necessary for safety.

3.8 Certification

Where certification forms part of the selected programme, Sailing Compass provides the relevant sailing training and preparation.

The certification and issuance process is carried out in cooperation with the relevant recognised or affiliated Nautical Club operating within the applicable framework of the Hellenic Sailing Federation.

Issuance of a certificate or diploma remains subject to the applicable training, attendance, examination, assessment, administrative, and other requirements.

Sailing Compass does not guarantee the issuance of a certificate where a participant has not fulfilled the applicable requirements.

Any sailing certificate or diploma must be used in accordance with the laws, regulations, charter requirements, flag-state requirements, and other rules applicable to the relevant vessel, activity, or jurisdiction.

4. SAILING EXPERIENCES — TERMS & CONDITIONS

4.1 Service Provider

Sailing Experiences offered under the Sailing Compass brand are provided by the Sailing Compass maritime company, registered and operating in Greece.

Lefteris Amoiralis is the legal representative of the company.

The legally required company, invoicing, and transaction information is provided through the applicable booking, contractual, and fiscal documentation.

4.2 Booking Requests & Confirmation

Submission of an enquiry or booking request through the website does not by itself constitute a confirmed booking.

A booking is confirmed once availability, price, duration, and any applicable conditions have been agreed and any required payment or deposit has been completed.

Any specific terms communicated and accepted as part of the booking form part of the applicable booking agreement.

4.3 Prices & Additional Costs

Prices, duration, and included services are communicated through the website, booking process, or individual offer.

Where applicable, additional costs such as fuel, end cleaning, catering, additional sailing hours, transfers, or other optional services are communicated before confirmation or before the relevant additional service is provided.

4.4 Weather, Safety & Itinerary

All Sailing Experiences are subject to weather conditions, sea state, vessel condition, port restrictions, and the skipper’s professional safety assessment.

The skipper has final authority regarding departure and return, route and destination, anchoring and swimming stops, sail configuration, continuation, modification or termination of the experience, and any other matter affecting the safe operation of the vessel.

Routes, destinations, swimming stops, or anchoring locations shown on the website or discussed before departure are indicative and may be changed where necessary for safety, weather, or operational reasons.

Safety always takes priority over the planned itinerary.

4.5 Rescheduling or Cancellation Due to Weather or Safety

Where an experience cannot reasonably or safely take place because of adverse weather, sea conditions, vessel safety issues, official restrictions, or other circumstances affecting safe operation, Sailing Compass may propose rescheduling, an alternative arrangement, or another appropriate solution in accordance with the applicable booking conditions and applicable law.

4.6 Guest Responsibilities

Guests must follow all safety instructions provided by the skipper or crew, provide accurate information regarding the number and composition of participants, supervise children or minors in their care, use safety equipment when instructed, respect the vessel, equipment, crew, other guests and marine environment, and avoid behaviour that may endanger any person, vessel, or property.

Guests must not interfere with the skipper’s safe operation of the vessel.

4.7 Sailing & Maritime Risk

Sailing and associated activities at sea, including swimming, snorkelling, and stand-up paddleboarding where offered, involve inherent risks.

Guests participate subject to following the skipper’s instructions and exercising reasonable care.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law.

4.8 Delays & Late Arrival

Guests are responsible for arriving at the agreed meeting point on time.

Late arrival may reduce the available experience time where extending the agreed return time is not operationally possible.

Any additional time requested by guests is subject to availability, operational constraints, and any applicable additional charge.

4.9 Personal Property

Guests remain responsible for their personal belongings.

Sailing Compass is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal property except where responsibility arises under mandatory applicable law.

5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & WEBSITE CONTENT

Unless otherwise stated, original website content, educational materials, photographs, videos, graphics, text, branding, and other Sailing Compass materials are protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property law.

No content may be reproduced, distributed, republished, or commercially exploited without prior authorisation except where permitted by applicable law.

Third-party trademarks, brand names, photographs, materials, and intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.

6. GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION

These Terms and the use of Sailing Compass services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable Greek law and European Union law.

Any disputes arising out of or in connection with the services or these Terms shall be subject to the competent courts and authorities determined in accordance with applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer or other legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

PART II — PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION

7. Scope & Data Controllers

Sailing Compass respects the privacy of website visitors, Academy members, Sailing School students, Sailing Experience guests, and other individuals who communicate with or use Sailing Compass services.

Personal data is processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and applicable Greek data protection legislation.

Because Sailing Compass brings together different services, the entity responsible for processing personal data may depend on the service concerned.

For the Sailing Compass Academy and Sailing School, personal data is processed by Lefteris Amoiralis, through his registered business in Greece.

For Sailing Experiences, personal data relating to enquiries, bookings, transactions, and provision of the experience is processed by the Sailing Compass maritime company.

Where information needs to be provided to a cooperating Nautical Club for examination, certification, or related administrative purposes, personal data may be shared where necessary for those purposes and in accordance with applicable law.

8. Personal Data We Collect

We may collect account information such as email, name, username, membership status and access information; contact information such as name, email, telephone number and correspondence; billing and invoicing information; Sailing School application, enrolment, training and certification-related information; Sailing Experience enquiry and booking information; technical information such as IP address, browser and device information; usage data; and communications submitted to Sailing Compass.

9. Purpose of Processing

Personal data may be processed where necessary to:

  • provide and manage Platform access;
  • process payments and memberships;
  • respond to enquiries;
  • process Sailing School applications and enrolments;
  • organise and administer training;
  • coordinate examination or certification procedures where applicable;
  • manage Sailing Experience enquiries and bookings;

Where processing is based on consent, consent may be withdrawn at any time without affecting processing lawfully carried out before withdrawal.

Information submitted through website contact forms, Sailing School applications, Academy communications, or Sailing Experience booking forms is used to respond to the relevant request and, where applicable, to take the necessary steps toward providing the requested service.

Users should avoid providing unnecessary sensitive personal information through general website forms.

11. Payments & Payment Data

Payments may be processed through WooCommerce-supported payment providers or other payment providers applicable to the selected service.

Sailing Compass does not store full payment card details.

Payment providers process payment information in accordance with their own legal, privacy, and security obligations.

Analytics tools may be used in aggregated form to improve website and Platform performance.

For the Sailing School and Sailing Experiences, the applicable Data Controller is identified in Section 7 above.

This Privacy & Data Protection Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in services, business operations, technology, or applicable legal requirements.
